A snowy weekend trek from Arolla to the Glacier de Cheilon & Cabane des Dix

Our Saturday starting point: Arolla, around 12:30 pm and 2100 m

We head uphill towards the Pas de Chèvres, stopping a few times for some chocolate, nuts and halva. Around mid-afternoon, we descend on to the other side of the pass via ladders, reaching the snowy ground just above the Glacier de Cheilon.

Just after 4:30 pm, we get to La Cabane des Dix (2928 m), where we spend the night in the winter room.
Our feast included soup, pasta with pesto, lots of cherry tomatoes, tofu for the vegetarian (ahem), and wine. Photo stolen from Maarten Camerlynck .

For Sunday morning, a post-breakfast hike from Cabane des Dix up to 3000 m.

We return to the hut for lunch, then leave at 12:30 pm to hike back to Arolla.
